Creating Tools For Financial Freedom
Yellow Cowries is a financial health and well-being organisation that aims to educate and motivate students, young adults, women and entrepreneurs regarding their economic choices. Yellow Cowries was born out of a passion for delivering effective financial literacy in Africa, with a focus on the actual impact of financial education, empowerment, and freedom. As a new brand entering the African financial literacy market, it sought a distinctive identity that celebrated the Nigerian heritage of the cowry. As the traditional legal tender and medium of exchange in the pre-colonial era, the cowry symbolised wealth and prosperity. The challenge was to reimagine the conventional symbolism of wealth and prosperity associated with the cowry and create a modern, memorable brand that resonates with both younger and older generations. I developed a distinctive and memorable visual identity for Yellow Cowries. The logo served as the foundation for a comprehensive design system, which I creatively applied across the brand's key touch points and platforms. This included financial literacy books, playing cards, corporate brand materials, as well as the website and social media.
